For more than four decades, Titan Global Wheel has been the Southern African partner of choice for Tyron runflat systems — the only field-mountable rubber runflat in the world. From the mine-clearance vehicles of the late 1980s to today's armoured personnel carriers, the technology has stayed true to a single idea: a flat tyre should never stop a mission.
Why field-mountable matters
Conventional rubber runflats require a hydraulic press to seat the runflat ring inside the wheel cavity. That means a flat tyre has to be recovered, transported to a workshop, and refitted — an operation that can take hours and a dedicated vehicle.
Tyron's patented multi-piece design eliminates the press. The runflat is split into a small number of segments that wrap around the wheel and are bolted together at the roadside. A trained two-person team can complete the swap in under 30 minutes — with the tools that already live in any military vehicle's standard kit.
What the platform covers
Tyron runflats are currently specified across three families:
- ATR Insert Range — multi-piece inserts for 16"–22.5" wheels, load-rated to 3,000 kg.
- Bead-Lock Range — for bead-loss protection at low pressure or puncture.
- Multi-Fit Adapters — convert single-piece wheels for runflat operation without welding.
Where they run today
Tyron-equipped Titan wheels are currently in service with defence and security forces in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, the DRC, Kenya, the UAE and Australia. Commercial applications include the mining fleets of Anglo American, Sibanye-Stillwater and De Beers — where a single flat in a remote pit can cost a six-figure sum in lost production.
